Akona: a Māori word that means one who excites, enthuses and inspires.
We embarked on this wonderful adventure in March 2018 to help busy people explore small shifts that will help them increase their energy, confidence and well-being, wherever they are.
We want to inspire better leaders and entrepreneurs in the workforce by encouraging them to work towards their own health and wellness goals. Because we believe that the best leaders are those who encourage and support the wellbeing of themselves and others.
Meet our founder, Donna Macintyre.
Following two Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection heart attacks in her mid-thirties, Donna decided to take control of her life and work at becoming a healthier, happier person.
After graduating with honours from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), Donna founded Akona Health with the aim of helping others experience healthy, holistic methods of healing and improving their lives.
She is trained in over 100 theories of nutrition science, diet and stress management techniques, and breakthrough transformational coaching methods. Donna believes that wellbeing goes beyond the food we eat and influences the other areas of our life including cultivating healthy relationships, developing a fulfilling career, and discovering our purpose.
She has also received her master certification from the Workplace Wellness Centre of Excellence (WWCOE) in Canada. Donna’s professional training has given her the skills and resources to create inclusive, high impact workplace wellness coaching for leaders and employees. Through this certification, Donna addresses important issues such as fatigue prevention, resilience building and stress mastery in order to help leaders and their organisations thrive.
